Spencer Gordon and Tara Trear

Norman Public Schools is pleased to announce Spencer Gordon as the district’s new Assistant Director of Transportation. He succeeds Jesse Hill, who recently stepped into the Director role following the retirement of longtime Director Mike Tauscher.

Spencer brings a strong background in transportation, logistics and technology. He previously worked as an Operations Manager for Amazon and has led digital transformation projects focused on automotive repair processes and workflow improvements. Earlier in his career, he co-founded a renewable energy company in Atlanta, Georgia, which provided used cooking oil collection and biodiesel production services.

Spencer holds a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University, where he completed an internship in financial planning and analysis at Murphy USA. He earned his undergraduate degree in Politics and Economics from Colorado College.

He is excited to join Norman Public Schools and looks forward to serving the community through safe and efficient student transportation.

Norman Public Schools is also excited to announce Tara Trear has been named as an assistant principal for Norman High School. 

Tara brings more than 20 years of experience in secondary education. She has served as an English Language Arts teacher, department head, and instructional strategist at Emporia High School in Emporia, Kansas.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education in English Language Arts and two master’s degrees in Building Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction, all from Emporia State University.

Tara was named Emporia High School’s Teacher of the Year and received the Kansas State High School Activities Association (NFHS/KSHSAA) Section 8 Spirit Coach of the Year award, recognizing her dedication both in the classroom and as a cheer coach.

She is excited to join the Norman High team and looks forward to supporting students, staff and families.
