Students got hands-on experience making chicken enchiladas, cilantro rice and corn salsa, then got to enjoy the best part: eating what they made! It looks like there were plenty of smiling faces by the end of the day.

A lot of work behind the scenes is making a big difference across Norman Public Schools.
Twenty-five NPS buildings have earned U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR® Certification this year, up from 14 last year, nearly an 80% increase. Even better, every NPS building submitted for certification earned approval.
ENERGY STAR Certification recognizes buildings that rank among the top 25% nationwide for energy efficiency while meeting standards for indoor air quality and ventilation.
This achievement is the result of years of work by our operations team, campus staff and partners to reduce energy use, improve efficiency and be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.
Most importantly, saving on utility costs means more resources can stay where they belong: in our schools and classrooms supporting students.

For the past four years, Cavender Subaru of Norman has supported Adams Elementary, and this year’s $12,500 donation is making a big difference in classrooms.
These funds go directly to teachers and students, helping provide hands-on materials, classroom resources and new equipment for the PE program. It gives teachers more opportunities to create engaging, everyday learning experiences and helps students have the tools they need to learn and grow.

Norman High Cross Country continued its strong tradition at the Greenhill Relays in Dallas, Texas, last week.
The Tigers' varsity boys finished fifth out of 42 teams, while the varsity girls placed 13th out of 36 teams. The girls also improved their relay time by nearly 20 seconds from last year.
The Tigers' JV boys brought home the biggest trophy, winning first place out of 44 teams. The winning relay team featured Harrison Kupec, Asher Navarro, Porter Volentine and Gage Asprey.

Our ExpandED teachers are looking forward to meeting families at our Back to School Night tomorrow, Wednesday August 26, from 6-8 PM. Interested in learning to play a string instrument? Norman Public Schools is offering beginning orchestra classes in violin, viola, cello and bass for all interested fifth grade students!
Classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, and meet Monday-Thursday during the school day. Each class is 30 minutes.
Parents and students are also invited to a special Orchestra Parent Information Night on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Center for Arts and Learning, 3801 Journey Parkway, where you can meet the orchestra teachers, ask questions and learn more about renting an instrument.
String instruments come in different sizes, and teachers will help students find the right fit when classes begin.
