Students from Norman Public Schools have been recognized as winners in the 2026 Oklahoma Writing Contest, a prestigious statewide competition that featured more than 540 student entries from across Oklahoma. Selected works will be published in an official anthology, which will be available for purchase on Amazon.

Among the honorees are several students from Norman High School, whose writing stood out among submissions from across the state:

  • Trinity Botts (Teacher: Leah Esker) 

  • Sophia Stoops (Teacher: Kerry Friesen) 

  • Ilo Bonner (Teacher: Kerry Friesen) 

  • Laura Kate Mancino (Teacher: Kerry Friesen) 

  • Skylar Beattie (Teacher: Leah Esker) 

These students were recognized across multiple writing categories, including descriptive writing, personal narrative, and poetry, showcasing both creativity and strong command of written expression.

This year’s anthology is dedicated to longtime Norman High School English teacher Freeda Richardson, whose impact on generations of students and colleagues continues to be felt across the district.

Norman Public Schools is proud of these students and educators for their outstanding achievement and for representing the district at such a high level in a competitive, statewide forum.
