Norman Public Schools is pleased to announce David Chandler as the Assistant Director of Transportation.

David Chandler is a veteran educator with 19 years of experience serving students, families, and school communities across Oklahoma. He began his career as an English teacher with Oklahoma City Public Schools and Millwood Public Schools, where he also served as a coach, department chair, and committee leader. In recognition of his instructional excellence and leadership, Chandler was named the 2009 Millwood Public Schools District Teacher of the Year.

After five years in the classroom, Chandler transitioned into school administration. He brings more than 15 years of administrative experience, having served in leadership roles across Oklahoma City, Edmond, and Western Heights school districts.

Chandler joined Norman Public Schools in 2021 as an assistant principal at Irving Middle School, where he served for two years. Recognized for his ability to build strong relationships while maintaining high expectations, district leadership identified Chandler as a key leader to address and improve student behavior and culture within the district’s transportation system. Embracing a new and challenging opportunity, Chandler worked for nearly two years to strengthen bus discipline, support drivers and monitors, and foster positive relationships with students, families, and transportation staff.

Chandler looks forward to expanding his impact within the Transportation Department. He is enthusiastic about this leadership role and is committed to positively influencing drivers, monitors, students, and patrons throughout Norman Public Schools.
