Norman Public Schools (NPS) officially celebrated the grand opening of the new stadium at Norman North High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The facility, designed to enhance the experience for both students and fans, marks a significant milestone in the district’s commitment to providing high-quality facilities for students.
NPS Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino said the new stadium represents a victory for the entire community.
“Today is a victory. Norman Public Schools wins. Norman High wins. Norman North wins. Every feeder school that sends their student to these two great high schools wins. Every student who will ever pull a jersey, march in the band, cheer from these stands, or walk into this site wins. This is more than a stadium. It’s a promise kept, a new tradition, a new legacy, and a home for generations of Timberwolves.”
The Norman North stadium is part of a broader $34 million investment in campus improvements made possible through the 2023 bond issue. In addition to the new competition stadium, the project included:
A modern turf field, updated track surface, expanded seating, enhanced lighting, and new signage
New and renovated athletic facilities such as locker rooms and restrooms
Campus upgrades including new sidewalks, fencing improvements, security enhancements, parking lot improvements, and site renovations
These enhancements were designed to create a safer, more welcoming, and future-ready environment for Norman North students, families, and the community.
Norman North Principal Dr. Kim Garrett shared her excitement for the future of the stadium.
“I can’t begin to express in words what tonight, and all the future evenings here, mean to us. This has been such an incredible journey, and I’m so excited to stand here before you. I’m thrilled for the future and everything that is going to take place in this stadium.”
NPS Director of Fine Arts Dr. Evelyn Kwanza said the new stadium provides an exciting stage for the marching band and color guard.
“Our marching band and color guard students spend countless hours preparing for performances, and now they have a venue that creates a memorable experience for both the performers and the audience. This stadium ensures that music and the arts will continue to be a vibrant part of our school spirit and community pride.”
NPS Athletic Director T.D. O’Hara said the stadium will be a game changer for both students and the community.
“We are thrilled about the opening of this new stadium. Having a home field for each of our high schools is not only important, but also incredibly exciting for our students, athletes, and school communities. This is truly going to be a game changer.”
Norman North’s new football stadium stands as a symbol of progress and opportunity, providing current and future generations of students with a facility that reflects their hard work and dedication both on and off the field.
The first official game in the new stadium will take place on September 5, 2025, when the Timberwolves host Norman High for the Crosstown Clash.
