Norman Public Schools Announces Associate Degree Program
NORMAN, OK (Nov. 29, 2023) – Students in Norman Public Schools will have the opportunity to earn an associate degree at a reduced cost through an initiative announced today. Through a partnership with Tulsa Community College, students can earn their degrees by the time they finish high school. NPS will begin the program in the 2024-25 school year.
“In Norman Public Schools, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to best serve our students and prepare them for life after graduation,” said Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino. “I am so incredibly excited about this program and cannot wait to see our first group of students walk across the stage in May 2026 to receive both their high school diploma and associate degree.”
TCC’s well-established associate degree program is virtual and utilizes mostly open-source curriculum, meaning there will be little to no cost for books. A facilitator will assist students in the program, providing staff support throughout the process. The total cost of the program will be approximately $5,500. NPS is working on partnerships to provide scholarship opportunities to students.
“As a first-generation college student myself, I understand some of the barriers that students may face when pursuing higher education. The virtual format of TCC’s program removes the need for transportation and reduces those barriers,” said Justin Milner, associate superintendent and chief operating officer. “Studies show that for students who earn an associate degree, the potential to finish a four-year degree goes up exponentially, and we are looking forward to providing this option for our students.”
Additionally, NPS will continue partnering with the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Community College to provide concurrent enrollment opportunities. The associate degree initiative is an additional avenue through which students can earn college credit.
