Schools expected to open Thursday, Feb. 2
WHAT TO KNOW
- Based on current forecasts, we anticipate having school in person Thursday, Feb. 2.
- District employees will drive the roads early tomorrow morning to check conditions. If it is determined that we need to close schools tomorrow, we will inform you early in the morning.
NPS Families,
We have remained in close contact with our partners at the National Weather Service in Norman and at Weather Decision Technologies. As of now, the amount of expected ice and sleet accumulations across the metro area have lowered, and we anticipate having school in person Thursday, Feb. 2.
That said, we understand there is a possibility of additional winter weather, and conditions will be such that an increase or decrease in temperature by just a few degrees may change the type of precipitation and amounts received. District employees will drive the roads early tomorrow morning to check conditions. If it is determined that we need to close schools tomorrow, we will inform you by 5 a.m. to give everyone enough time to plan for the day. If you do not receive school closing communication from us or see closing information on the morning newscasts, that means we are having school. If we do have in-person school, please understand that buses may be running late as they will carefully travel their neighborhood routes.
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this week. For more information about our winter weather procedures, visit www.normanpublicschools.org/studentsafety.
