New Principals Named at Irving Middle School, Roosevelt Elementary
The Norman Board of Education recently approved the district’s recommendation to hire new head principals at Irving Middle School and Roosevelt Elementary School. Shlonda Brewer was named the principal at Irving on July 13, while Yasmin Hoover was approved for the Roosevelt position on Aug. 8.
“We are thrilled to announce the hiring of these two educators as head principals,” said NPS Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino. “Both Shlonda and Yasmin are dedicated and passionate educators who put students first, and I know they both are going to make positive impacts on their respective schools.”
Brewer brings 17 years of experience to Irving Middle School. Since 2005, Brewer has worked at Oklahoma City Public Schools. Most recently, she served as the principal for Capitol Hill Middle School and was previously in the same role at Greystone Elementary. During her time with OKCPS, Brewer was also an assistant principal, remedial specialist, classroom teacher and building test coordinator. Brewer earned both her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in leadership from Langston University.
“We are excited to welcome Shlonda to Norman,” Migliorino said. “Shlonda brings with her experience working with students from various backgrounds, and I know she will continue to be an advocate for all students here too.”
For her entire career, Hoover has worked for Norman Public Schools. Hoover started as a second grade teacher at Adams Elementary School in 2004 before spending 2009-2020 at McKinley Elementary School. In 2020, Hoover was named the assistant principal at Monroe Elementary School. Hoover is a two-time graduate of the University of Oklahoma, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in educational administration, curriculum and supervision. She is also a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist.
“Yasmin has been a standout teacher and assistant principal during her time with NPS, and we are excited to keep her in the district,” Migliorino said. “We are confident that she is going to be a great fit at Roosevelt.”
