Norman Public Schools to engage in remote learning Thursday, Feb. 24

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Due to inclement weather and hazardous travel conditions, all schools will engage in remote learning Thursday, Feb. 24.
  • Additionally, all school activities Thursday are canceled.
  • Decision for Friday will be communicated as soon as possible Thursday.

Parents,

We remain in close contact with our partners at the National Weather Service in Norman and at Weather Decision Technologies. Forecasts call for additional winter precipitation later this evening and into Thursday. With frigid temperatures expected to persist, road conditions are expected to remain hazardous.

As a result, all schools will engage in remote learning Thursday, Feb. 24. Additionally, all school activities Thursday are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will be in touch with their individual groups and teams with details.

Recently, during our last winter storm, we communicated that as a district we have just one snow day remaining. We believe it is best to engage in remote learning Thursday and are considering using our final snow day Friday if necessary. We will make that determination and communicate to parents as early as possible on Thursday.

We understand that remote learning can pose difficulties for some students and families. It is important to note that while we work diligently to ensure remote learning provides students with engaging and enriching learning experiences and opportunities, we understand every student’s situation is different. We can assure you that no student will be penalized for circumstances outside their control. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher or principal directly. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and please stay safe and warm in the coming days.
