Board of Education approves hire of principals at Norman North, Whittier and Truman Elementary

The Norman Board of Education approved Monday the district’s recommendation to hire new head principals at Norman North High School, Whittier Middle School and Truman Elementary School.

“We are thrilled to announce these three exceptional educational leaders,” said NPS Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino. “I have been incredibly impressed with the passion these principals have demonstrated for serving students and I cannot wait to see the impact they will make at their respective schools.”

Dr. Kim Garrett was named principal at Norman North High School. Dr. Garrett comes to Norman from Broken Arrow Public Schools where she served as the director of high school academics for the last three years. Prior to her time at Broken Arrow she served as an associate superintendent for Fayetteville Public School District and an assistant superintendent at Springdale Public Schools. She also has principal experience, having served as principal at Bentonville High School in Arkansas for four years and at Washington Junior High, also in Bentonville, for three years.

“Dr. Garrett has a wealth of experience,” Migliorino said. “Norman North carries a well-earned reputation as a high-achieving school and I am confident that Dr. Garrett’s background and judgment make her a perfect fit to not only continue that legacy but to build on it.”

Ethan Davis was selected as the new principal for Whittier Middle School. Ethan currently serves as an assistant principal at Norman High School and has been with the district for nine years. Prior to his position at NHS, he spent three years as an assistant principal at Alcott Middle School and four years as a classroom teacher and coach, also with Alcott.

“Ethan is going to do great things for Whittier,” Migliorino said. “He is another Norman product that we’re thrilled to keep here at NPS. Ethan is all about relationships and we’re excited for him to start working with the students, staff and families at Whittier to make it the very best it can be.”

Sara Adams was chosen as the new principal at Truman Elementary School. She has been with the district since 2008 when she got her start as a third grade teacher at Madison Elementary. After ten years as a classroom teacher, Adams has served the last three years as an assistant principal, first at Mustang Trails Elementary in Mustang and currently at Roosevelt Elementary with NPS.

“We’re thrilled to have Sara at Truman,” Migliorino said. “She is an exceptional talent here at NPS and we know she has the energy and the passion to lead Truman Elementary. Robye Kay Jackson leaves big shoes to fill with her retirement, but we couldn’t be more confident that Sara is the right person for the job.”
