District, booster club partner to honor late coach and principal

The Norman Public School District, in partnership with the Norman North Soccer Booster Club, will dedicate the Bryan Young Memorial Field in honor of the former coach and principal Tuesday, April 25, between the two varsity games around 7:45 p.m.

“Bryan was a tremendous asset to our district and made a significant impact in the lives of our students,” said the Norman Public School District’s Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano. “He was a respected colleague and friend who is remembered as a ferocious advocate for students. It is an honor for us to partner with the booster club to honor his legacy.”

Young coached soccer at Norman North from 1998 to 2006 and served as the school’s principal from 2006 to 2014. During Young’s tenure as coach, his teams won two state championships, four academic state championships and carried a record of 131-10-1. He left the district in 2014 to pursue a legal career and passed away earlier this year.

“Norman North’s soccer programs were built on Coach Young’s vision, passion and continuous drive,” said Don Rother, head coach of the Norman North Girls' Soccer Team. “We are thankful for his selfless commitment to coaching, education and mentoring. His legacy will never be forgotten and we are forever grateful for the thousands of lives he impacted.”
