Students to receive free breakfast during testing season
Studies show students perform better when they eat a nutritious breakfast. That is why Norman Public Schools, in partnership with Sodexo, for the first time will offer free breakfast for students during the month of April - a time when students are focused on standardized tests.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” said Dr. Nick Migliorino, assistant superintendent of Administrative Services. “We know testing can create anxiety for our students, and we also know they are better equipped to achieve academic excellence when they aren’t hungry.”
Every student in the district can enjoy one complimentary breakfast each school day in April, courtesy of the district. Free breakfast will be available April 3 through April 28. Serving begins at 7:25 a.m. in elementary schools, 7:50 a.m. in middle schools and 7:30 a.m. in high schools. Parents should contact their child’s school to confirm specific serving times.
“It is our mission to help all students reach their full potential and our students can only do that on a full stomach,” said Migliorino, whose current responsibilities include oversight of the district’s Child Nutrition program. “We appreciate Sodexo for helping us facilitate this initiative.”
