Ideal Homes highlights NPS Parents as Teachers program
Children and families can experience a new splash pad, learn more about the Norman Public School District’s Parents as Teachers program and witness a community developed around an innovative storm water filtration system at an event hosted by Ideal Homes. The Sept. 8 event will take place at 10 a.m. at the new splash pad in the Trail Woods neighborhood, located north of W. Rock Creek Road and just east of 12th Ave. N.W. in Norman. The event is co-sponsored by Norman Public Schools and the City of Norman.
Parents are invited to bring their children to enjoy the Trail Woods splash pad, visit the rain garden and see how the neighborhood provides a safe place to live and raise children. The splash pad is part of a series of interconnected storm water filtration projects in the neighborhood. This event will show these families how the chemicals we use for landscaping move through storm water into the water we all drink, and how neighborhoods like Trail Woods are taking steps to reduce this damaging impact.
“With our storm water management projects in Trail Woods, and other like it, Ideal is investing in the future,” said Zack Roach, Vice President of Development, Ideal Homes. Long a national leader in storm water quality best management practices, Ideal’s objective is to be conscientious about the ecological footprint of the homes and communities it develops. “The bottom line is you can develop neighborhoods without any care for the impact your decisions have on others around you. Or you can create sustainable communities for the long term. That’s what we’re doing.” he added.
“More than any other city in Oklahoma, Norman wants to be good stewards of the environment, taking the time to educate children about the importance of natural resources that we all share,” said Michele Loudenback, (title), City of Norman.
The event also will provide an opportunity for families to learn more about how to prepare their children for success through the Parents as Teachers program. The program, which is coordinated through Norman Public Schools, prepares families and small children for school readiness through personalized home visits from certified educators, monthly parent meetings and developmental screenings.
