Norman Board of Education approves administrative assignments

The Norman Board of Education on Monday approved several administrative reassignments for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.

Dominic Barone has been selected as the new principal of Madison Elementary. Barone currently is the principal at Jefferson Elementary and replaces Annette Williams, who will retire in June.

Barone has worked in Norman Public Schools since 2014 when he joined the district in his current role. Prior to his time in Norman, he served Texas students in the Clear Creek Independent School District as a special education teacher and team leader before becoming an assistant principal. Barone holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University and received his undergraduate degree in education from the University of Oklahoma.

Carla Allen, currently an assistant principal at Alcott Middle School, will replace Barone as principal at Jefferson Elementary.

A Norman High School graduate, Allen holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration and attended the University of Oklahoma for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Prior to her time at Alcott Middle School, she was a Gifted Resource Coordinator and Lead Teacher at Cleveland Elementary and has held teaching positions at several schools throughout the district since 1994. Allen also is active in the community and has served as a member of the Crossroads Youth and Family Services board of directors and participated in the Citizens Police Academy.

“These individuals are proven leaders in our district and will be great advocates for our students at these schools,” said Dr. Joe Siano, superintendent, Norman Public Schools. “Their commitment to academic excellence and student growth is evident, and our students will benefit from their leadership.”

Allen’s position at Alcott will be filled by Susan Powell, who has held several administrative positions and most recently served as the district’s Elementary Curriculum Support Coordinator.
