Norman Public Schools announces new Reagan Elementary principal
The Norman Board of Education has approved the district’s recommendation to hire Kelly Otis as Reagan Elementary School’s new principal.
Otis began her career in 1990 as a second-grade teacher in Hugo, Ok. She later taught in Kentucky and Texas before becoming principal in 2013 at Jefferson Elementary in Norman where she built rapport with parents, supported the staff and chaired an Early Intervention committee. Family commitments led her to Texas last year, however, she recently moved back to Norman.
“We are delighted Mrs. Otis has returned to our district,” said Dr. Joe Siano, NPS Superintendent. “She will be a great leader at Reagan Elementary and her previous experience within the district will provide a smooth transition for students, parents and staff.”
In addition to her experience in the classroom, Otis has served on district improvement teams and campus needs assessment committees. She also is a lifetime member of the Parent Teacher Association/Organization and a former member of the Texas Elementary Principal and Supervisors Association.
Otis replaces Carol Sims, who retired to accept a position with the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority and be closer to family.
“We appreciate the amazing work Carol has done for our students,” Siano said. “We fully support her decision and know she will do an outstanding job to further Oklahoma’s workforce development while being closer to her family.”
