Superintendent's message addressing charges filed against former Norman teacher

As you may know, the Norman Public Schools administration office was recently notified by the El Reno Police Department of charges filed against a temporary teacher who was assigned to Longfellow Middle School.

The safety and security of our students - your children - is our top priority. Immediately upon being notified, we suspended the teacher and began aggressively pursuing termination. However, we received his resignation within hours of his release.

At this time, we are not aware of any link to students in our district. We continue to work with investigators and, if we learn more beyond what has been reported, we will update you with information we are legally permitted to share.

We take this matter extremely seriously and have a no-tolerance position on issues such as this. We remain steadfast in our commitment to protect your children and we will not hesitate to take swift action to ensure students have a safe environment in which to learn.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Siano
Superintendent
Norman Public Schools
