Sudden Opportunity Program

At the Norman Public School Foundation, we understand significant needs may arise that fall outside of our general classroom support grant program. Our Sudden Opportunity program exists to ensure the Foundation is in a position to assist with additional opportunities that enrich learning experiences for students. Below are several examples of the Sudden Opportunity program in action.

Flight Simulators

In 2022, instructors recognized the need for our young aviation students to train in real life circumstances. The Norman Public School Foundation provided funds for FAA rated flight simulators. These machines allow N.P.S. students to practice aviation skills in the same way that professionals practice.

The Learning Bus

The Norman Learning Bus was funded by the Norman Public School Foundation in 2019. The need for student literacy does not end in May when schools take a summer break. The Norman Learning Bus reaches students in all areas of Norman throughout breaks and provides access to books and learning throughout the year.

Traveling Planetarium

This planetarium, funded by the Norman Public School Foundation in 2019, travels to all NPS elementary schools to provide students with an engaging, hands-on lesson about science and space exploration. Donations made to the Foundation make projects like this one possible!

Associates Degree Tuition Assistance

In 2024, Norman Public Schools launched a program for students to earn their associate degree by the time they finish high school. The Foundation provides tuition assistance for students in need who are enrolled in the program.
