Students can get a head start on college courses and reduce future tuition costs through new concurrent enrollment opportunities. The Norman Public School District has worked diligently with the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) to offer courses on high school campuses, secure reduced fees for seniors and offer attainable entrance requirements.
English Comp 1 and Comp 2 will be available for seniors on the Norman High and Norman North campuses. Please click here for information regarding all English 4 options for students, as well as the requirements for each course. Courses are available through both OU and OCCC.
College Algebra will also be available for seniors on the Norman High and Norman North campuses. Students must have completed Algebra II. Entrance requirements are SAT Math 510 OR ACT Math 19, 3.0 GPA, top 50% class rank; completion of fall preparatory course. The fall semester of this course will emphasize understanding of mathematics concepts rather than just memorizing procedures in order to solidify the student’s foundational understanding of mathematical topics, including number and operations, graphing, functions, and algebraic reasoning. The spring semester will be taught by an OU professor for credit in MATH 1503, which reviews basic algebraic skills such as multiplying and factoring polynomials, rational expressions, linear equations and inequalities, exponents and radicals, plus absolute values. Other topics include the concept, notation, and algebra of functions, functions of linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic type, and systems of equations.
OU costs $0 for tuition for High School Seniors with fees at $40/hour for a total of $120 per course. High School Juniors attending OU have costs of $478.80 for tuition per course plus $120 for fees. OCCC offers no tuition costs to high school Juniors and Seniors up to 18 credit hours with fees substantially lower than 4-year colleges.
