Protecting our School Communities
Please continue to check this site regularly as plans and procedures are subject to change.
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we have worked hard to develop a plan that focuses first on the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff. Our back-to-school plan relies heavily on guidance adopted from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control and the Oklahoma State Department of Education. We also launched a Back-to-School Task Force, conducted multiple surveys and facilitated listening sessions with parents, students, teachers and staff to ensure a variety of viewpoints, circumstances and anticipated scenarios were carefully considered and addressed.
It is important to understand that information surrounding COVID-19 continues to rapidly evolve. We will continue to take a measured, methodical and flexible approach to ensure we can adapt to situations and new scenarios as they arise. Simply put, our plan almost certainly will change as the school year progresses and the situation continues to unfold. We will undoubtedly face challenges this school year. We will continue to put children first and make decisions we believe are in the best interest of our students, teachers and staff. And, if we continue to work collaboratively, speak with kindness, respect differing viewpoints and demonstrate civility and grace, we will get through this together.
As a result of this rapidly evolving situation, the incredibly difficult decision has been made to begin this school year in a fully virtual format, provided by NPS teachers, for a period of time as we continue to work on plans to phase students back into our buildings as soon as it is safe to do so. We have also pushed the first day of school for students to Monday, Aug. 24, to ensure our educators have adequate time to finalize their lessons and instructional delivery plans.

NPS COVID-19 Updates
Enrollment continues and we understand that when in-person instruction opportunities resume, families will continue to choose the educational option that best suits their needs. Families who have already enrolled in NPS ExpandED program may continue to use that option if they choose.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to download the Norman Public Schools mobile app and create a Parent Portal account. In addition, learning management systems (Seesaw for elementary students and Canvas for secondary students) will be used to share lessons, assignments and academic activities. Parent access to the learning management systems will be provided by each student’s teacher after school has begun.
