By the end of the French I students will be able to comprehend basic spoken and written French, as well as communicate with others about themselves, other people and familiar objects using a variety of vocabulary in the present tense.
By the end of the French II students will be further able to comprehend and use more complex spoken and written French, as well as communicate about themselves, other people and cultural topics using a greater variety of vocabulary in the present and past tenses.
By the end of the French III students will be able to comprehend and use even more complex spoken and written French, as well as communicate about themselves, other people and cultural topics using a much greater variety of vocabulary and tenses essential for understanding authentic French.
By the end of French IV students will be able to comprehend and use standard French, as well as communicate with others on a variety of topics, using a wide range of vocabulary, tenses and language structures.
