• By the end of Chinese I students will be able to master Pinyin, the Chinese phonetic system and tones.  They will be able to identify Chinese characters that have been explicitly taught.  Additionally, they will be able to introduce themselves and talk about their lives and interests, including themes of family, food and sports.

     

    By the end of Chinese II students will be able to identify an increased number of Chinese characters that have been taught.  They will be able to communicate using a range of simple vocabulary, including topics of time, the home, weather and ordering food.

     

    In Chinese III students will increase their recognition of Chinese characters and be able to communicate with simple sentences and short paragraphs.  Vocabulary will be expanded but may still be limited.

     

    By the end of Chinese IV students will be able to communicate more easily on topics focused on in class.  They will be able to apply their recognition of Chinese characters to reading authentic simple Chinese books.
