Why Pre-K?

Pre-Kindergarten Programs

  • Norman Public Schools Pre-Kindergarten program is voluntary and offered as a service to the community. The program fosters all areas of development: intellectual, language, physical and social, emotional within an active, appropriate early childhood environment. This early learning opportunity uses play and hands-on materials as a means of discovering and learning concepts that are of high interest to this age group. The concept units integrate and teach across all areas such as literacy, numeracy, science, social studies and the arts. The Pre-Kindergarten structure and routine help students develop school behaviors that support successful learning in following years. Some examples of those school behaviors would be working with others in small groups, listening as another is speaking, making choices, taking turns, problem-solving and building peer relationships.

Students must be (4) four on or before September 1, 2023. Requirements for enrolling are (2) two proofs of residency, a copy of an official birth certificate and current immunization records. Parents who have already enrolled their 4-year-old in Pre-K must still confirm the student's enrollment in August at the school office. Requests for AM or PM sessions as well as updating immunization records can be made at this time. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer transportation for Pre-Kindergarten students.
