From the Principal's Desk 9/5/19

     Dear Madison Family,

Thank you all for a wonderful start to the 2019-2020 school year. We will be sending out a monthly letter from the principal to summarize upcoming events, as well as provide additional timely information.

With that being said, I want to remind you all that we have a number of exciting events and important dates that I don’t want you to forget during the month of September. Please see the list below for those activities and events that will take place at Madison Elementary throughout the month:

    • PTO Back-to-School Skate Night, 9/5
    • Coffee with the Principal, 9/6 (immediately prior to assembly)
    • Book Fair Opens, 9/16
    • McFarlin Mobile Food Pantry Night, 9/17
    • Fall into a Good Book Night, 9/19
    • Book Fair Closes, 9/20
    • Terrific Kids Assembly, 9/27
    • Coffee with the Principal, 10/4 (immediately prior to assembly)

Our Technology Department is excited to announce that the NPS Board of Education recently approved the purchase of new Apple devices in Norman Public Schools to enhance the learning environment for your children. The new devices are funded through the 2019 bond issue and support the district's iTech initiative to enhance educational opportunities for our students. Replacing the devices is fiscally responsible, as the initiative allows us to continue providing high-performing laptops for students while maximizing the buy-back rate for our older devices. In addition to new devices replacing older devices in classrooms, we will now have enough devices to accommodate the new state of Oklahoma mandate that all 3rd through 5th graders test online.

Please remember that student laptops are used to enhance instruction for our students and are used only when instructionally / developmentally appropriate. These devices will stay at the school and will not come home with your child. If you have any questions regarding the usage of these instructional tools, please reach out to us.

For more information about the iTech initiative, visit

Parents, don’t forget that tonight is the annual Cross-Town Clash at OU’s Memorial Stadium. Both Norman North and Norman High will be squaring off in their annual gridiron battle. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The recently handed out student athletic passes, which some of you may have received, do not cover this event.

Finally, the Madison PTO and I are continuing something we started last school year. Coffee with the Principal will kick off this Friday, September 6th. This year, however, we will start at 7:25am, prior to the weekly Friday assemblies. Coffee with the Principal is an opportunity for parents (not students) to learn more about the happenings at Madison while enjoying coffee and pastries on us. Please feel free to stop by and come and go as you. We look forward to getting to know you all as we work together to make Madison Elementary a great place to be.

Thanks for your support and a great start to the new school year. Remember, my door is always open and thank you for the opportunity to learn from and work with your children.
