    Read Across America Week

Every year schools around the country celebrate Dr. Seuss and the countless hours of enjoyment his books bring students every year. One of the main ways in which schools accomplish this is their participation in Read Across America. Beginning Monday, March 4th, Madison Elementary will be celebrating Read Across America. Below are the following ways in which we will be celebrating reading and honoring Dr. Seuss:

    • Monday, March 4th - Fox in Sox Day, wear crazy socks to school
    • Tuesday, March 5th - Green Eggs and Ham Day, wear something green
    • Wednesday, March 6th - Wacky Wednesday, wear inside out clothes day
    • Thursday, March 7th - Cat in the Hat Day, wear a hat day
    • Friday, March 8th - Sleep Book Day, wear pajamas to school day

This is by far one of the more popular fundraisers that we do at Madison Elementary. This annual fundraiser began last year as a way to help raise money for both the PTO and our local Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) organization. Here's how the fundraiser works:

    • Student are encouraged to bring left over change to school and place it in collection buckets in their classrooms - the class with the most money at the end of fundraiser wins
    • The fun part/twist is that silver coins (nickels, dimes, quarters) count against your overall class total, so students get a kick out of sabotaging their sister classrooms by placing silver coins in their collection buckets

BBBS is a wonderful resource that many of our Madison students utilize weekly, and well worth our continued support!

We are well on our way to meeting our campus goal of earning 1,500 Paw PRIDE stickers before March 8th gets here. Last week, with only 4 days, our students collectively earned 303 stickers, bringing our over all total to 1,398 earned stickers. Remember, our students earn Paw PRIDE stickers when they are caught being good role models by demonstrating either a positive attitude, respect, integrity, self-discipline, and/or empathy towards others. Continue to make time to talk with your student(s) about the Paw PRIDE Challenge. Ask them what they've done (and are doing) to help the school reach it's goal of 1,500 Paw PRIDE stickers.

The Madison PTO Fundraising Dinner hosted on Friday, February 15th was a huge success and great time had by all in attendance. As a campus community, Madison raised over $6,500 dollars, all of which will be put back into the classroom through PTO's support, ensuring more engaging learning experiences for all students. A huge thank you goes out to our Madison PTO, lead by Mrs. Reed and Mrs. White, as well as Mr. Austin for organizing this fun event.
