• WHO WE ARE

    Whittier Middle School is located in central Norman and currently serves ~1200 students in grades 6-8. We are the largest Norman middle school, and we are the feeder school for Adams, Cleveland, Truman, and Roosevelt Elementary Schools and Norman North High School. We have 4 administrators, 3 counselors, and 88 staff members including 69 certified faculty. We have a gifted resource teacher, a certified full-time librarian, an Innovative Learning Coach, a National Board Certified school psychologist, a certified speech pathologist, a Licensed Practical Nurse, and on-site tech support. Whittier has 7 National Board Certified Teachers.


    OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

    At Whittier, we look forward to working with students, parents, and community partners to assist children in the fulfillment of their educational goals. Whittier has a history of fine academic and extra-curricular accomplishments. 

    Whittier students and teachers show RESPECT, OPTIMISM, COMMITMENT, KINDNESS, and SAFETY daily and understand that these principles are fundamental to our success.

    We have ONE GOAL: STUDENT SUCCESS.

    Whittier has received a B- or higher on our 2013-2016 school report cards.

    Whittier was named a Reward School by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in 2012 based on outstanding achievement on student assessments for the previous 3 school years.

    We won first place team in the Oklahoma Math League Math Contest  for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades for 2015 and 2016. We also had the top individual at each grade level.

    Whittier's Mathcounts Team has been State Champions for the past 5 years (2014-2018) and advanced multiple students annually to Nationals.

    Our National Math Club received Gold Level Status in 2014, 2015, and 2016!

    The Science Olympiad team has placed 2nd place in the state of Oklahoma for many years!

    In 2018, our Academic Teams placed 2nd and 3rd at State!

    Whittier Middle School's girls' and boys' Botball teams compete annually in the State Competition. The Whittier Botball Robot from 2010-11 has been placed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.

    Whittier has had a state qualifier in both the Spelling Bee and Geography Bee for the past 15 years. In 2010, a Whittier student placed 4th in the statewide Geography Bee. In 2013 and 2014, a Whittier student was named the the State Geography Bee champion and went to Washington D.C. to compete in the national Geography Bee. In 2017, one of Whittier's students was invited to the State Geography Bee. 

    Whittier Middle School has students who have been recognized in the Duke University Talent Identification Program/Talent Search. In 2017, 4 Whittier students earned national recognition and 25 Whittier students received state recognition. Recognition is based on students' scores on the SAT or ACT Test.

    Whittier Middle School currently offers 4 courses for high school credit at our middle school: Algebra I, Geometry, Spanish I, and Physical Science.
